What is MCMEG?

MCMEG (Monte Carlo Modelling Expert Group) is an expert network group established in 2016, specialized in Monte Carlo radiation transport modelling and simulation applied to the radiation protection and dosimetry research fields.

The group is hosted at the Post-Graduate Program in Nuclear Sciences and Techniques of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and brings together researchers from partner institutions across Brazil and abroad.

MCMEG produces open educational material — including a book of computational experiments and a free online course — to make Monte Carlo methods more accessible to students and practitioners in medical physics, radiologic technology, and nuclear engineering.

Mission

Advance and share validated Monte Carlo radiation transport modelling and simulation methods for radiation protection and dosimetry research.

Focus Areas

Radiation protection, dosimetry, nuclear instrumentation, radiation detection, and computational teaching tools for the Monte Carlo method.

Institutional Support

Funded by FAPEMIG, CNPq, and CAPES, with computing resources provided by LCR/UERJ and IRD/CNEN.

Team

MCMEG is coordinated by the following researchers. See the group's full profile on the CNPq research group directory.
